Holidays and Sundays.

Easter: New outfits, parades, egg hunts, contests, foods, family gatherings, history.

Everything changes when you retire and you move away from all these things.
You establish your own rhythm, your own rituals, your own celebrations.

So, here is a preview of the way Hubby and I will celebrate Easter:

1. We might eat ham, boiled, with vegetables. For dessert, French toast fingers.
2. We might walk to the beach, collect agates, notice how the dunes have changed.
3. We'll call our children, starting on our own phone, then passing one to the other.
4. We could drive up to Coos, sixty miles away, to see the latest flick.
5. Or, something else entirely, like a trip to the doctor, a day in bed with back pains.

A day just like any other!

And we might reminisce, about egg hunts, parties, church visits, family get together where I cooked for hours and hours and everyone spent the entire day talking about their jobs, their purchases, their goals, etc........

The push-and-pull of being alive.
A day like any other day...oh, but it's wonderful to be alive and able to walk the beach or drive or take in a movie with your best friend, call your loved ones in spite of the distance, cook a little instead of a lot, and not have to put up with the fact that no one ever asks you a question about YOUR life!
Every day is a holiday...everyone envies you.

When we're retired, we don't know what each day will bring...whether we'll be up and running or stopped by aches and pains. At least if the next day comes, we can be grateful for that!

Easter here is a four day weekend. One of my favorite things is listening to Classic FM Hall of Fame. Early in the year listeners are invited to vote on their 3 favorite classical pieces and then the top 300 are played from Good Friday until Easter Monday. So whatever I'm doing I'm likely to have an earful of wonderful music. Easter Sunday is church and an important food day. The Man gets a chocolate Easter egg from Mama Bunny and dinner is always leg of lamb and dessert is always something chocolate! This is the first year we won't have a house full of family -- just the two of us. But the sun is shining so our town will have many tourists and we will be able to bask in some sunshine (I hope!). Happy Easter, Rosaria and God bless ...

Whatever you do, I wish you abiding peace and happiness. We will be having friends (who are also far from home) over for Easter dinner. It's been sunny and lovely here so friends are just the icing on the cake. Tanti auguri di buona Pasqua!

Oh, what are french toast fingers? They sound yummy. Perhaps you could post a recipe for us?

You really have some lovely choices, if you don't include the bad back.
Enjoy your day and reach out to those far away. Thank goodness for modern communications.

It certainly makes a difference when you are retired - most of the time my husband and I don’t know what day it is. We try to remember the week-ends because we get the newspaper those days. When family is far away we don’t feel we have to make a special dinner. We are going to eat leftovers because we are going on a trip soon and we are trying to empty the fridge, so nothing special, if not I would have bought some lamb. Lamb is my favorite meat and here where we live we cannot find it too often but there is a good choice of cuts at Easter. Have a happy day, anyway you decide to have it.

We'll have Greek Easter with friends early in the afternoon and Regular Easter with family late in the afternoon. We take salad to one and bread to the other. This year, it isn't us doing all the cooking, and that's nice!

Well,Rosaria, I could have a day just like that on any other given year, too. It just depends on what everyone in the family is doing. I have learned not to be disappointed but to view it as a cozy, quiet day. And that's OK with us! (besides, we love movies!!)
PS...I can't imagine the sheer joy on an everyday bisis of getting to walk a beach!!

I confess, whenever I need real de-stressing we were off to the beach, and that did the trick! Now, I can walk everyday to the beaches. I can sit up in bed and watch the waves from a distance for hours.
Yes, everyday is a holiday now.
And we are pinching ourselves!
Thanks for the visit.

Happy Easter, however you celebrate!

Life does change when we get older. I remember so well the Easter egg hunts, the new clothes, church services, the bright sunny spring day of those long-ago Easters. The only thing that will be the same for us today is going to church--if Jen's health allows us to get there! We're hoping....

What you might eat sounds delicious. And whatever you decide to do (hopefully there will be no back pains!) ENJOY the day!!

My husband and I will have our adult children over for an Easter feast and celebration. Easter is about Jesus and His great and bountiful love for us, so it is a day to celebrate at our house.

A walk on the beach sounds lovely. It's true that in retirement we tend to reinvent our holidays. We're going out for a lovely Easter brunch with several of our neighbors who are also far from family. However you end up celebrating, Rosaria, I hope you have a very happy Easter!

This morning I helped at the Lion's Club egg hunt for special needs kids. Such a fun activity. It takes us 15 minutes to scatter the 700 eggs and it takes the kids less than a minute to sweep the park clean. That's the only Easter activity on my calendar. I'll be traveling on Easter to Texas.
I hope you enjoy your day. A walk on the beach sounds perfect!

It sounds like a great day to me. We are celebrating this day much differently this year than we normally do. I love that you can walk to the beach. We drove to the seacoast yesterday. I found it so nice to be just a couple of hours from the coast; but, to be walking distance? Pure heaven to me. :)

Thanks so much for stopping by my blog and commenting and introducing me to your wonderful blog. It's very nice to "meet" you. Have a very Happy Easter!

My in-laws used to joke that they sat and rocked naked on the back porch out in the country! I think it was a joke...anyway, I hope your day is lovely no matter how you spend it. I'd hit that beach myself!

I would recreate your Easter again. We used to have a plastic shell that resembled half an egg. In that you put melted chocolate and made two halves - one chocolate egg. What we did this Easter (admittedly with my granddaughter) was to bake biscuits in the shape of rabbits using metal cutters.) What you could do easily is to cut out a cardboard cross and stick it on the window. How about going to Church!

My grands live far away and they've decided they're too old to hunt eggs any longer at ages 13 and 9. I spent the day resting up so that I can start painting the dining room woodwork today... and then I'll spend the evening on the couch, nursing my aching body.

Hmm. I havn't yet had to think about being away from my kids/grandchildren. At the moment they all live close by and visit for at least part of the four days. Now that we have a new baby (and the other granny was also with us) she and I had a great time, playing with baby, discussing our kids etc. while the girls had the run of my kitchen and prepared all the meals - and washed up!
