Don't Box Them In

Living things grow.

Their needs change.

People, birds, dogs, cats, all finite and limited, share times together and leave each other enriched somehow. We grieve, we feel injured and forlorn when a beloved pet passes, when a friend leaves, when a parent dies.  We may be the only living beings mourning other living beings.

Even when we know that a friend is on a journey, we miss him/her.  Something in us needs those connections to remain intact.

We paint, we write, we built cages and boxes to keep our memories alive.

In the last few weeks some blog mates have left blogland and I miss them already.  Something in each of them added to my understanding and appreciation of the world. Their words, their pictures, their life stories, their creative work added to the meal of each day, the sunshine that warms me.

I shall miss Erin's poetry. I wish her well on her journey. She deserves much success and more appreciation. May her star shine brightly.

I will look for her comet to return.

Yes, it has been on my mind too, Rosaria. It just goes to show, that human connection does not exist only in the physical realm. Blog friends can be equally precious to our wellbeing, as can those who have passed before us. Time or distance cannot alter love.....it is eternal.x

Nicely put. I didn't know Erin was leaving blog life behind. Thanks for letting me know. Lovely photo.

We were told not to talk to strangers, and yet we have opened up our hearts, our homes, our minds to complete Unknowns. The Unknowns have become our friends, we know their childhood stories, we know what makes them tick, we know their talents. And we miss them when they are gone. They leave behind an everlasting smile.

Rather weird but true.

I hope your friend returns to blog-land soon. I always wonder what is happening with folks when they don't post. I surprise myself at how much they affect me and my thoughts even though we have never met.

Bloggers like face world friends move in and out of our lives in cycles. I know of some who stayed gone for more than 1/2-1 year but I never de-linked them and was there when they returned.

I guess that's why it is good to have a lot of memory.

Hey Rosaria,
It's funny, Hubby and I were just talking about this over coffee. I said; "you know if you don't have time to visit around and comment on everyone's blogs they stop coming to yours". Lately blogging has been tough for me.I've even thought about closing the porch.
Blogging cuts into my reading which is my true love, and I have nerve problems in my back that are agrvated by sitting too long at the computer but I love all my blog friends and just can't give them up. I still miss David McMahon and wonder how he is!xoxo

Rosaria, it is not an easy decision to leave. It has taken me a year to decide but when the time is right there is nothing left to do. The relationships are real though, even though blogging receives so much criticism. You have touched me in very real ways. You have laid a hand upon my head, my hair soft and warm like a child's, and I have received your touch and will carry it with me into tomorrow. I've stopped posting but I won't stop writing, of course, and I certainly won't stop coming to read you when I can. We feed one another. We pay witness here, just what my last Window posts reflects that I recognize as the meaning of life. Who would I be to deny that?

I am full of gratitude for the relationships that I have had the honour of making. I will miss you all like family.

my best to you and yours
always

I feel the same when a blogger leaves. That piece of the world disappears forever.

It is a strange thing that blogging relationship. You can never be sure that people are what they say are and yet you get attached to them and you look forward to the next post.
I will also miss Erin's poetry and will keep the link, just in case.

I find it amazing how attached we can get to people we've never met! I feel like the bloggers I connect with are my friends, just as if we met for coffee in my kitchen each day!

I just read your last several posts, I have gotten behind. I have also missed a blog friend, I wonder what he is doing now...

Thanks for coming by! Koocanusa is near Libby, Montana. It is a long, narrow reservoir on the Kootenai River behind Libby Dam, and is a good place to fish as well as take pictures!

Hi Rosaria..
I guess the best way to get around these times is to focus on what we have gained from the relationships... rather than the loss.

love to you

This touches me and resonantes deeply with me right now. For some reason, those who have passed from my life, both recently and long ago, are strongly in my mind and heart these days and I have a nearly constant lump in my throat of late. It reminds me that each moment is precious.

Right. That sums it up nicely.:-)

Oh you sound just like me. I miss bloggers who I've come to know when they decide to leave. We get to know each other and it is a real loss:(

I could not have thought it better! Thank you for reminding each of us the connection that is formed on so many levels in our human life even when it is virtual.

Is it my imagination, or did you go from just a few followers to more than 200 followers practically overnight?

I'm on Blogland too, but still in a tent. It's a bit chilly this time of year, so I'll be in the Southland for a while longer, at least in my dreams.

how true..."added to the meal of the day, the sunshine that warms me." You so easily capture the feelings!

I guess we all will come to that time at some point. Nothing lasts forever. But the relationships we form in the blog world are very real, and not any less important than the ones in our "real" world. People come and go and I'm grateful for the time we spent together.

It's always sad when a favorite blog friend closes their blog. A friend of mine says that when you write a book, you know when you're done, but in blogging there is not a clear guideline for starting or stopping.

Expat from Hell also closed his blog this week. I feel so sad about it though I respect, of course, their decisions.

Funny, I started my blog so my family could follow me and I'm not sure any visit much and none "Follow"...but what I have gained is a "family" of friends, most who I will never meet but some who I will...but even those I won't have the chance to meet...I miss them and wonder if everything's ok when they stop blogging. But I do know it is a big taker of time, but to me, so much more rewarding than other social networks...

It's amazing how Blogland feeds our time, weaves friendship and reminds us that people are like transient clouds, they come and go.
