Health Care Reform-we are still talking.............

Dear Friend,

If you’re like most Americans, there’s nothing more important to you about health care than peace of mind.

Given the status quo, that’s understandable. The current system often denies insurance due to pre-existing conditions, charges steep out-of-pocket fees – and sometimes isn’t there at all if you become seriously ill.

It’s time to fix our unsustainable insurance system and create a new foundation for health care security. That means guaranteeing your health care security and stability with eight basic consumer protections:

No discrimination for pre-existing conditions
No exorbitant out-of-pocket expenses, deductibles or co-pays
No cost-sharing for preventive care
No dropping of coverage if you become seriously ill
No gender discrimination
No annual or lifetime caps on coverage
Extended coverage for young adults
Guaranteed insurance renewal so long as premiums are paid
Learn more about these consumer protections at Whitehouse.gov.

Over the next month there is going to be an avalanche of misinformation and scare tactics from those seeking to perpetuate the status quo. But we know the cost of doing nothing is too high. Health care costs will double over the next decade, millions more will become uninsured, and state and local governments will go bankrupt.

It’s time to act and reform health insurance, drive down costs and guarantee the health care security and stability of every American family. You can help by putting these core principles of reform in the hands of your friends, your family, and the rest of your social network.

Thank you,
Barack Obama

Good luck to all of you. I hope Obama will prevail over Foggy Bottom.

I do hope we get universal health care. Lord knows we have supported all of the countries in the world that have it -- you and I paid the taxes for them. I wouldn't mind having some for us for a change. I hope Obama can get it done or the Blue Dogs are voted out of office with their right wing Birthers.

Wishing you all the very best of luck with a better supportive health system.
Your current system sounds inhuman.

best wishes
Ribbon

PS... I'm surprised that people haven't taken to the streets to protest your current system.

Potsoc-Thanks for the good will you send this way.

Abraham Lincoln--I feel the same way. It's time.

Ribbon--We are struggling with a broken system that needs major fixes.

No protection against age discrimination?

I've been listening to some of the opposition spin and it's really quite frightening. They've got senior citizens thinking the plan will force euthanasia on the elderly. Where do these wackos come up with such craziness?

God help us all.

It's pathetic - and tragic, really - to watch these obstructionist republicans fight this issue. They have no plan except more of the same. They have gov't health care, but we're supposed to believe the same thing would be detrimental for the rest of us?

As unbelievably stupid as their arguments are, people buy into them. Today, I was getting my hair cut and the woman who has been cutting my hair for 18 years said she's against socialized medicine. I nearly gagged. She then recited every republican talking point against O's health plan.

I pointed out that the social security she gets because she's a widow, is socialized. That Medicare is socialized. That schools, fire departments, police departments: all socialized. People don't probe deeply enough. They buy into lies. & the republicans have nothing left but lies.

It should be single payer - Medicare to all, as Kucinich and a few others have proposed. Let the insurance companies go the way of the Dodo bird. Health care should not be a business for profit.

Unfortunately true.

I hope people can recognize the onslaught for what it is, and withstnd the nonsense, and keep up the pressure.

Best wishes from Canada.

Let's cross our fingers.

I'm with Abraham Lincoln. I will not vote for any indidividual that did not vote to fix our healthcare system. Period.

I subscribe to the President's e-mails, but I'm glad you're posting these for those who don't have the opportunity to read them. We all need all of the information we can get! What good is a voter if she/he isn't a well informed voter?

I think we receive the same emails!

If only we could work this out, but I worry that the status quo will stop this attempt once again. I don't think many know the gravity of the situation or how the present system will continue to cost more than the change. I'm frustrated with how uninformed so many "intelligent" friends/family are. How the news they receive does not provide accurate information. Still, I try to convey. Most times to no avail.

I hope that Obama will manage to change things.

Although our treatments are free, it is a different matter with insurance for travel and life policies etc. They also exclude pre existing illnesses & makes it very difficult to claim anything unless you are really healthy to begin with.
Worrying!
Also treatments here depend on where you live and some people have a much better deal than others. Certain drugs are not equally distributed across the country & some people miss out on treatments that others can claim, often with fatal consequences.

Fire Byrd makes an interesting comment about being "speechless" after seeing Michael Moore's Sicko. And I have great sympathy for her.

My response, based on what I know of Canadian, British, and Cuban health care was, "What's new in this?"
