Waiting to plant

This is where we hang out most of the time. Right out of view is a deer-proof fence where I grow fruit and vegetables. It is a secret garden, of sorts, hidden by trees and bushes.
Tilled ground with mushroom compost ready to go in the holes.

I could be just sitting here and take in the views. But I have things to do, baby greens to tend.

My back deck is full of starters waiting for permanent homes.

So, today, rain or shine, we're moving down.

It's drizzling, perfect time to do heavy work. Hubby will grumble and complain when I tell him that his help is needed. He doesn't like getting wet or separate himself from his computer.

But you see that clean level ground right by the deer-proof fence? He is responsible for the way it has been prepared. He hired the boy to clear all that. You should have seen the jungle it was.

So, regardless of the weather predictions, today is the day.

Looks like you could do with me and Chip to dig some holes for those plants for you. But they might be a bit random ;-)

Wizz :-)

The plants look as though they are enjoying the rain, anyway!

Dear Rosaria ... at least you aren't having a nice mixture of rain and snow today! Happy gardening ~ to both of you!

I love your back deck ... inspiration for me to 'do' something with mine this year.

Oh, happy planting in the rain! Good for the plants and okay for humans if they're well equipped for it. I'm always being told here that 'there is no such thing as bad weather - only bad clothes'. One day I'll get it right, no doubt!

I love your secret hideaway - it looks heavenly.

Terrific! We are building our garden this year...we moved here not so very long ago, but hubby has made multiple trips to a local horse farm, and I believe our garden is well-prepared :-) Happy gardening! The cool, rainy days are best!!! ~Janine

I just came in from working in the yard. It is bloody HOT (but I do live in Georgia - you know, right near h-e-double hockey sticks).

You have a lovely yard! Have fun!

The place where you spend you time looks perfect! Quiet, overlooking the lake, I can almost here the birds. I'm going to read your six part story now, but wanted to stop and say 'hi' first.

Enjoy the planting. I love your deck. I wish I lived in a country! I think I would really love gardening.

We don't really do gardening. We watch tulips grow, apparently without human intervention and assorted other perennials who show randomly all around the house, not weeds, real flowers and shrubs...more or less gone wild. We also watch many birds at the manger and bird bath. Well we do have to fill the manger. The bath, these days, takes care of itself. Soon our neighbour's apple tree will blossom and our maple will sprout tiny leaves. Longueuil is not Georgia nor the Pacific coast.

You're a better woman than I. I can't seem to get motivated this year.

Show us the after shots, k?

I need to get my tomatoes in the ground but a pinched nerve at the base of my neck is keeping me from doing so. Have fun planting, you live in a great spot. (I thought about trying that silly-looking hanging tomato plant on TV. No bending.

It is really great to have that opportunity to do what you are doing. I used to have time for gardens and such but work kind of took over. I'm in the process of trying to reclaim some of that back.

My real mission here though, is to personally thank you for stopping by and leaving your comments yesterday. The pets in our lives have such individual personalities that it is hard when they are no longer there. However, the memories last a lifetime and I have a ton of those.

Hope you had a good day planting. Damp weather is good for that. Our garden got badly overgrown last year, while we repairing the house after our fire. I have a feeling that this year will mean a major re-construction job; we may have to almost start over again. Sigh!

But that won't likely happen until we've dealt with the fallen tree which landed on our son's and daughter-in-law's garage roof, and threatens their house. (Fortunately, the garage is built like a fort -- the house isn't nearly as solid.)

BTW, thanks for the good advice on taking weekends off. I am feeling a bit burned out. My husband's catering company has really gotten busy lately. If it keeps up, I might offer to be the fry girl. :)

It all looks fabulous - as I am sure it is. A lot of work, but rewarding. I am more than a teensy weensy bit envious.

Isn't gardening just one of the most satisfying hobbies. I have a small yard, flowers, no room for veggies, but I could spend hours just poking around looking at things grow.

I'm like a kid when I put a teeny seed into a pot and a beautiful plant emerges. How does that happen?!?!?

Looking forward to seeing the harvest.

Thanks for visiting. I was out all morning, and reading the Sunday paper all afternoon. By evening, my body was reminding me of all the contortions I put it through and began to pout. When I put it to bed, it kept grousing and snapping invictives all over the place.

That body of mine needs to be conquered again and again. It has its own memories.

Your view is wonderful - so 'moist' looking - I love the way Oregon is moist and everything grows so well. I even saw moss on many roofs when I was there.
