Before and After.

The After picture!
After retiring:
Real woods.
Real planks cut out from those trees out there.
Real weeds.
Real birds and assorted animals.

Real weather.

Before Retiring:
Copied picture of a state of desire:
Bird cages nailed on a wall.
Benches made out of polished veneers.
Imitation birds.
Rustic Dream.

These are the changes that we can control.

(My apologies to the designer/photographer of this lovely vignette.)

It is a comfort to know dreams we cut pictures of magazines for can actually happen sometimes. It is a hopeful thing to write down the requirements and walk among our words. I need to write and cut out pictures.

Hah! word verification is "spill"

Perhaps spilling out your dreams is good thing :). You are often in my thoughts, Rosaria.

It's so wonderful to see and to read how some of your retirement dreams have become reality, Rosaria! Life does feel more real these days without work-related time constraints and impact on our life rhythms, our locations and our options. Now our time is our own, our location a matter of personal choice. It's so immensely satisfying! Thanks for expressing this all so beautifully!

Nice contrast of then and now and don't forget the hectic pace compared to more liesure. Much the same here; I was amazed that this home resembled one whose design I had torn from a magazine years ago. Have you found that time moves way too fast most days and wonder, "how did I have time to work" now that I can spend my time as I wish?

I used to have a gardener taking care of my yard but now I don't anymore. Some people think we have moved to the city, and we like that! That they think we no longer live here :) Our garden now is all so naturale :)

Who said retirees are passive and useless?

Now you're making me wonder . . . is part of getting older an increasing desire to get back to what is real? Once upon a time suburban perfection was fine with me; now I need -- and luckily have -- a rustic imperfect house and a yard speckled with dandelions and clover. Makes me happy.

Real is good. Thanks for sharing the photos. I'm thinking about the huge leaves on our deck. They're pretty out there, and I'm not planning on cleaning up the deck any time soon. I like the natural look.

I'm with potsoc. Retirement is a whole new occupation, and full of action.
Which is why I'm part of Occupy Saskatoon.

I do admire the way you pack in so many lovely activities into your retirement.

i love this rosaria. while fantasies entertain in their imagined perfection - the more jagged edges of reality is where all the good stuff lies.

I like your new deck overlooking the hill and the woods. I'm using your quote from Oct. 26th "The Next Stage." Thanks!

We're at work on a Before/After project. It's all been a bit TOO real :)
