Let the sunshine in!

When you live in a forest you expect that every storm will cause some damage, to the house, to the trees, to the land. A few seasons ago, a couple of big trees by the deck were blown over and damaged the deck and the fence. We have held our breath every winter!

This year, this destruction was intentional, man made. We actually hired a tree trimming contractor to come in with big machines and cut these  trees down to prevent damage to the buildings, and to create sunny spots  next to the house. This is all in anticipation of a bigger front and side garden. There is still a lot more hard work ahead, including concrete and benches and gravel driveways.

The deck above is right outside our bedroom, and for ten months out of the year this area is shaded. Having more sun on the deck, and in this side garden will allow me to walk right out of my bedroom, on good days and have breakfast al fresco. When my knees are too sore to move about, I will still be able to tend my plants right out the bedroom.

This mess will need some sunny days before it can be cleared it out and transported  away. We are still having wind and rain storms week in and week out. It is too soggy and muddy for us to trample around easily.

I wish I could show you the after pictures.
You'll have to be patient.
And, dream along with me.

So, sing along and make magic with Annie as we shout, The Sun Will Come Out, Tomorrow!!!

Wedn, 4/26. 8:14 a.m. rain and hail, and sun and cloudy day! No chance of clearing up today enough to take chain saws out and cut up all this mess.
Oh well. Tomorrow is Another Day, quoting Scarlet!

I'm glad the trees have been felled safely and given you more light and made things safer.
When I saw that little house I did wonder.......

Oh my, I actually used that phrase from Annie in a post on another blog I follow..so funny! I bet it will be wonderful to have more sun and also more garden. Our weather has been weird this year and after the very warm start in March it has stayed cool to down right freezing all April. I think Mother Nature is trying to test our patience! Hope the clean up can proceed quickly so we can enjoy the "after"!

We have some trees on the west side of our house that I'd love to trim drastically, to let light in the side windows. But my husband likes the privacy they give from street views.

Oh, well!

Looks like an ambitious project!

it is incredible to me how much work it takes by man and woman:) to make a dent in the physical world. kind of puts it into perspective, doesn't it? but the work will pay off. your life will change in, perhaps small ways, but good ways. right out the bedroom, eh? sounds wonderful.

What a great plan- more sun, more light, more growth. What a good thing to do.

I'm a tree lover, but sometimes you just need the sunshine more. And, that a little clearing will give you more access to your deck -- another good reason. Enjoy the process!

Though trees are beautiful, they are often disasters waiting to happen. Once you move in on them, you have to deal with them. Sooner or late.

Letting more sunshine into your house is wonderful. From bedroom to garden sounds, well, romantic. Idyllic.

I hope the "renovations" go well.

Blessings and Bear hugs.

I don't know when you will get to cutting and clearing but I would be content to have a pot of coffee and a book in that dog run between the sheds.

I hope that your plan works. We have had to buy blackout blinds and thick curtains for our bedrooms windows to stop the sun from waking us at 5am.

You and weather! Roughing it...I'll never forget the time you talked about how you wear raincoats all the time.

Heavy duty work, those trees. But peeling them back from the landscape will definitely bring sunshine and quicker drying after a storm.

My four months in India, I never saw a drop of rain...though, now that I'm gone, monsoon will begin. Once back in the Bay area, I was greeted with fog, rain, and a huge storm with tornado warnings for Pacifica, and my immediate area. Since all my belongings are in storage up the the ceiling, I couldn't even haul out my sweats ( those are my normal sleeping attire here! and am still in my lightweight Indian nightgowns, shivering!!!

Sunshine tomorrow ... maybe. we are being teased with cloudy weather, no liquids. However we seem to be on the edge of several fronts which brought destructive weather elsewhere.

Don't like to see trees cut down, but agree with you about the need to do so in your patch of the woods! Look forward to seeing how it all progresses.

We had a few trees taken down around our house in South Africa. As we did not have wood fires over there, the tree guys did a fantastic job of clearing everything away and the garden was spotless when they finished.

How nice to have the sun again though, it always warms and cheers me up :) Diane

One big pine tree fell on my husband pick-up years ago so we had 14 pine trees cut down, but more trees have grown up and we have very little sun. It is like a rain forest around here – I stopped counting at 48 trees. But we do have sun all the time – away from the trees. Today it was 88 degrees. Now we have all the windows open because the air conditioning is broken – it’s warm and stuffy – I wish we were close to the sea.
