Back in Time

Sometimes, I think we stepped back in time when we moved to this hamlet. People here love the sixty's, cars, music, clothes, attitudes.  I was a teen in the sixties. I understand.

On a day when old cars are paraded and people pose with their favorite, a holiday fixture we call Show and Shine, the Sixties are alive and well.  In this last photo, Mr. and Mrs. Miller from Brookings pose with their Pontiac and a picture of him sitting on his first car, a Pontiac similar to the one he is standing close to, now a labor of love to maintain his memories intact.

Happy Labor Day, wherever you are!

Happy Labor Day, Rosaria. Or as we call it in Canada, Labour Day. :-)

That Volkswagen Van is in mint condition...!

I had to go back after reading Roseann's comment to see these open-able windshield windows! I also remember the 60's, that's when I came of age. Thanks for the memories!

Ah, the sixties. Finishing high school — attending university — and (sadly) Viet Nam — whose impact we did not escape here in Canada. An interesting time to be alive! "American Pie," recorded in '71, reflecting on a dozen years of living. The era depicted in "Happy Days."

I remember a big blue Chevy (about 1957?), with very sharp horizontal tail fins (Don't cut yourself on those!) that I inherited from my grandfather. Never had a levee to drive it to, though.

Hope you have a grand Labor Day. It's going to rain here, all day and night. Sigh!

How great you found a place where you are almost able to time travel back to the 60s and 70s. It looks like fun, especially the car show.

Funny, we were just talking about the old VW wagons this morning, making their way across American to Woodstock. I wish I had one now!

We have something called "Cruisin' In" at various locations all summer. I love the old cars and yes, I grew up in the sixties too! That VW van sure gave me a memory flashback to my dear Mom-in-law who used to drive hers everywhere! I loved it and her! Have a great Labor Day yourself!

Enjoy your holiday! The sixties are certainly worth remembering for a lot of things. It is the MG that takes my fancy.

About 6 or 7 years ago, we travelled through Canada all the way to Vancouver Island in B.C.; there on the west coast is a small town, Tofino, where I never saw such a cocentration of VW Westphalias of all colors and mostly from the mid 50s. The town is an artists place and was, I hope it still is, very reminiscent of Hippy days.
Not very far from your place, you could check it out.
I've always dreamed of having an MG...but it will remain a dream.

Well, a happy Labor Day to you
as well. My youngest just returned from a week away at
an event in the Nevada desert
called "Burning Man" - a gathering
of some 40,000 which, I gather,
is something like Woodstock, with
music, nudity, and assorted other things. He and his girlfriend borrowed my van so they could sleep in it and spent a week in preparation so they would have enough to eat ( and drink ). A good time was had by all though the dust was pretty awful.

Otherwise, for me, I've been to a wedding over the weekend and went out yesterday to hear one of my
favorite jazz singers perform.

On the way home from church yesterday I saw two VW buses in the opposite lanes. I nearly had a love melt down.

My boyfriend and I had a VW bus and I'm pretty sure the windshield windows did not open. At least I didn't know it if they did.

We went to the ice cream festival during the summer and they had a classic car show. Classic cars?! I remember riding in those cars!
