West Coast Ecosystem-Based Management.

We're all in this together, no matter where we live, what we eat, what we see out of our windows.

POORT  Port Orford Ocean Resource Team:

Looking out for Red Fish Marine Preserve.

You might be interested in an article written in our local paper, Port Orford Today, dated Nov. 11th, page 4, titled: Local Economic Impact.

Port Orford and Newport, up the coast, have been identified as New Marine Conservation Areas, for study and preservation of marine life. As part of this identification, many agencies have a stake in maintaining this rich ecological area.

In previous posts, I wrote about the impact Port Orford Ocean Resource Team (POORT,
link at the top of the page) is having on fishing and protecting our coastal habitats.

Scientists are working closely with neighboring teams from Washington and California, to address needs and provide sustainable solutions.

The best way to deal with dwindling resources is to put our heads together and come up with solutions.

there is a lot of truth in that last statement...the only way we will ever find solutions is putting our heads together...

It will definitely take collaboration, on many levels, for us to reach some viable accomplishments in this area. It makes good senses for our coastal states to work together!

I couldn't agree more. How wonderful that it may be a marine reserve.

Many hands make light work and many heads make solutions, I suspect.

The Oregon coast must be protected. That's where all my childhood memories live.

An appreciation of nature is very much needed in our societies today.

Unfortuantely we are losing respect for life around us and have started to believe that we can control everything.

I like what you are sharing here. It's a global concern.

Good to see public and private enterprise collaborating to save lives and the environment.

Stewardship of this planet should be required in schools starting in Kindergarten and running through 12th grade.

I agree. Good stewardship starts with someone getting involved on an organizational level, and if we train our children to get involved, they can help us problem solve the trouble we've created.

I had the pleasure of driving down the Oregon coast and I agree--it must be preserved!

Your blog is great. I see here that you are getting visitors who care. I hope somehow, someone who doesn't care comes across your blog and has a change of heart. By blogging about issues that speak about changing our earth for the better is a great way to reach out and teach those who don't care what happens to our planet.

Yes we are all in this together and some principles apply wherever we live. We each have the resonsibility to do what we can, even it is just recycling for free. Some people will recycle only what they can sell. I recycle what my City will recycle and pick up. We all have limitations and priorities, but still need to contribute in someway. I try to use a lot of recyclable items, stationery, paper, cards. I recycle plastic bags, but am not yet into purchasing cloth bags as my memory never gets them to the car.
