Back to Port Orford...

This is my tired husband, ready to soak in the sea breeze and rest after a week of go, go , go.

In the morning hours, our lake, viewed from our deck, is a peaceful place, the ocean just over the dunes, cool breezes keeping us comfortable day and night. We missed this peacefulness during the girls' visit. It was fun having them; but it was also very tiring.

The look here is one of satisfaction. We did it; we had a great time at the Shakespeare Festival, at the beaches, at the zoo, at the various family reunions we shuffled to last week.

We're back home, just the two of us, two birds on a wire, or a ledge, getting ready to face another fall, winter and spring of rainy weather. The boat house needs painting, the deck must be washed and sealed, and the outdoor furniture needs to be brought in. But, not quite yet.
We are taking long beach walks, enjoying dry, sunny days.
Soon, school bells will ring and the world will return to another rhythm, that of work and study. Three of my children/spouses are in education; their work rhythm is well known to me. At the end of August, we all stock up at Staples, at Walmart, buying extra paper and pencils, not for ourselves, but for the children in our classrooms who might need such supplies. My husband volunteers for an organization that provides shoes for kids. And all over Oregon, in each mall, there are bins to collect coats for children for the cold and rainy months.
With employment down, and food and utilities taking such a big bite of a family's budget, it is important for all of us to give more, to be more generous, more understanding. Many people are unemployed or underemployed. My children in California who work for the state received pay cuts, in form of unpaid furloughs. They have to adjust their budgets accordingly.
The country is debating universal health care, and many people are confused and fearful. We know that something needs to be done, and costs need to be contained.
Come September, our representatives in Congress need to sit down and pass a health care bill that addresses our most pressing need.

your post gave me a smile...sounds like you habe returned to a good rhythm yourself. its nice to get back to that when you can. now is the time to give more...as crazy as it may sound...may are worse off than we are...and of course it tends to brighten our day when we brighten others. have a great week.

Glad you had such a good holiday and the place you live is really beautiful.
However I am beginning to see USA in a new light! Obviously not the wealthy country of rich people that it is meant to be & that everyone else thinks it is.
You are doing a good job collecting things for the more disadvantaged.

I would love to have your lakehouse view at the end of such a busy week shuffling around, visiting; it's wonderful at the time, but so tiring. I know you're glad to be back home, so give yourselves a rest before you start tackling those heavy jobs.

That is the situation in all families. So glad to have the offsprings and offshoots in, so restful when they have left. But where would we be without them?

you're preparing for the rest and quiet of winter, my wings are desperate to stretch with the coming spring.... and that's all okay.

You are an inspiration to so many people ... I especially love the reminder to help kids with supplies and clothing. We should all be helping.

Just a three hour drive for me and I am in the land of winter rains .. so different from the high desert on my side of the Cascades. You manage to make the rainy season sound alluring.

Enjoy your week.

Ah grandchildren. Just the thought of doing something wears me out. The joy of doing something with them lifts me up.

Good grief! Getting ready already for school? Sigh. Cannot believe school starts again in a couple of weeks.

What happened to the summer?

Oh, right; that's when brother-in-law et al. were here, and the puppies arrived.

A house with a view, Rosaria, how I envy you. If I had a lake to gaze upon I would never get anything done but I would be content.
Answering your question about retirement, I am retired from active paid work and even from unpaid household duty. My time is taken up with a high ranking position in the WI... and hubby looks after the house. I am indeed a lucky woman.

I love those views of the lake where you live. Lucky, lucky you!

Autumn is nearly here, I also feel like buying stationery supplies even though I won't be back to school this Autumn... there is something about September that makes me think of freshly sharpened pencils.

Seems like vacations are tiring the older you get, but y'all did a LOT!

We are just vacationing at a fishing resort, actually known elsewhere as a fishing cabin.

My husband is with a guide so hope he catches lots of fish.

I stayed at cabin and catching up blogging, posting pictures, and fixing to post to checkbook--seems like that job accompanies everywhere!

Wonderful images Rosaria. And good words that remind us that we do so all need to think of others not so fortunate as ourselves.

If only all holiday photographs - and commentaries - were as unboring as those. Lovely. Good to hear you had such a great time.

What a wonderful post. I love the portrait of the two of you, looking satisfied.

Here at the house on Tennessee Avenue, we love visitors. We love it when they're here and we love it when they leave. It's all good.

I could feel the turning wheel of the year, reading your post. Made me feel cozy and rhythmic. Thanks, Rosaria!

Oh that water looks so beautiful! Oregon must be a wonderful place to live, Rosaria.
What a busy time you have had - I am just catching up after not touching a computer for weeks. Soon I too will be returning home, to normal life once again. You are so right about the need to give give give and give yet more at this time.

Satisfaction, indeed, and long sleeves!!! That beach air must be so comforting. Ohhh, I can imagine. And all of the excitement of fall afoot, I love it. I got so excited tonigh,t that I could smell fall coming in the air, that I punched the rocking chair. It was an accident. I don't recommend it.

A nice vacation post and school is starting here tomorrow.

Like you we have a lot to do before the snow flies but it is so hot here now and the humidity is up there. Maybe tomorrow.

I'm with you. 10 days of just one grandchild is tiring! LOL!

You home and view is just lovely. How wonderful to look out at that each day.

I agree with needing to give more. It's hard times, and more to come, I'm afraid. Hopefully our politicans will pass something for the people, for a change.
