The call of the wild...

Roadless Rules: The Struggle for The Last Wild Forests,

Out here in Oregon, with big swaths of forests and unspoiled beaches, the biggest controversy on our politicians' table is how to balance the need for economic growth with responsible maintenance of our environmental resources.

The link above is brought to you courtesy of Island Press, an environmental group that keeps a pulse on these issues. Enjoy.

As for me, I'm playing in the dirt.

Hi Lakeviewer: You're a kindred spirit. I haven't seen much environmental posting on the blogs I follow, but I'm very familiar with this issue. I work for a group that has been very instrumental in this issue in Idaho--though we live and work in Montana. You might remember from last week that the Idaho Roadless Rule was not thrown out when Obama made his deal about reinstituting the Clinton Roadless Rule. I have mixed feelings about the outcome of the Idaho rule personally, but knowing a bit about the local rural economies in this neck of the woods, I'm glad that the locals got a little more input into how the Idaho deal played out.

Thanks for posting this.

You must be feeling better then! I recall your garden was giving you a bit of trouble in the beginning of the season.
