A perfect day on the Pacific

Some days the sun, the sea and the waves call you.
You stand across the street
You look at the possibilities

Then, you see
another soul like you
walking back from the dunes
the scruffy terrain
returning from the beach

Across that  sand, that rivulet,
an ocean of waves
just right
just frothing
calling your name

You will have to traverse this path, driftwood and broken shells and hidden dangers.  Your eyes will keep looking out to the waves, the surfers barely visible, the sand warm and inviting.  Paradise is awaiting.  Go on, cross the street, carry your board. Go on, enjoy your last summer day.

I definitely hear it calling my name.

The Southern Oregon Coast. It calls at all times of year. Those shots are just a peek.

Beautiful, lakeviewer. Such a lovely and peaceful picture you've painted here, with both words and pictures.

It's quite beautiful and I hear it calling me.

You know what struck me when I first set foot on a pacific ocean beach, in Tofino, B.C.: you smell nothing. On an Atlantic ocean beach, you smell iodine, salt, algae even fish. On the Pacific side...nothing.
Atlantic salmon has a pungy taste, Pacific salmon needs seasoning. Strange! They say it is because the Pacific is cold while we have the Gulf Stream on the eastern coast. Any other explanation?

Potsoc, you are right about the smells. They are subtle, hints of sea, most of the time. Your guess is as good as any I'd come up with. Perhaps the wind currents have a lot to do with the smells too.

It's already cold, rain and windy here, but I'm not giving up my shorts and sandals until I freeze. And freeze I will all too soon enough.

Now this is getting to be the time of year we like to down to the gulf
(70 miles) hang out, eat seafood and sit on the beach and gaze at the water. I'm not a summer beach person at all because I rarely get in the water. :0)

Oh, to be where it is the last summer day. I'm a little burned out on the heat and humidity right now.

Beautifully written!

Hi Rosaria

I know from experience that surfers do a lot of wave contemplation...
its part of the process and the enjoyment I think...and then there's the recall and recollections and embellishments...

Happy days

Really nice places there to photograph. Not so much here. Cornstalks and clouds in the sky. LOL

Thanks for visiting my blog.

Ah, makes me miss getting sand in my shoes--- and elsewhere.
We are really getting nippy here. Enjoy your beautiful views. I'll be content with your pictures.

beautiful - both words and pictures :) I just came back after spending 3 days by the beach here in Maryland and my daughters and I were ecstatic to spot a family of dolphins rolling along one morning.

I tried surfing the Detroit river but the waves refused to break unless it was the wake from a passing freighter.

I wish I had remembered to enjoy my last summer's day. But summer slipped away from us and it has been cold and raining here for over a week with the promise of much more to come.

Suddenly summer is no more.

sigh

As it turns colder here.. farther from summer, the call of the waves sure sounds inviting. Lovely post.

love this. What an evocative post. Why are these perfect days so often on the cusp of something we're not looking forward to? Hope you are having a good weekend, and the winds having started blowing yet :)
