The Northwest.
Green landscape with water here and there: rivers, creeks, lakes, ocean. We can breathe, temperatures cool and steady throughout the summer, hardly a day of discomfort.
Yet, even on a sunny day by the lake, we crave foods that don't grow here, like corn, avocados, limes.Even paradise has snakes!
Happy Summer!
I would be jelous but i'm by the ocean and we have Jersey corn!! Life is good.
ReplyDeletesmiles....we each have a bit of paradise where we are...and i think we crave as well a bit from other places....i miss my limes from FL
ReplyDeleteNowhere is perfect!! Keep well Diane
ReplyDeletedamn you rosaria! now i want an avocado! truly))) (not the damning but the avocado.)
ReplyDeletewhat a truism, this. what a wonderfully observed horrible truism.
happy summer to you too.
xo
erin
you are so right about not getting everything you want even in paradise.
ReplyDeleteavocado is my new favorite food to eat in my salads!
I was just at the ocean a few days ago but on the otherside of America, it truely seemed like paradise but then it ended and I had to come home to reality.
I can understand that. I would be the same way.
ReplyDeleteIt isn't fair. Paradise should not have snakes. I live in less than paradise and I have plenty of snakes. I really like lakeside homes and their wonderful views. Maybe you are on the ocean.
ReplyDeleteSo true, Rosaria! Your area of paradise looks glorious and yet we're always missing what we no longer have while being grateful for the present. It's one of the strange aspects of relocation in retirement!
ReplyDeleteMy son and his family are moving to Oregon this summer...maybe I'll be able to taste a bit of that paradise? I'll bring the avocado and the corn and I'll throw in the limes because I think you're awesome! Enjoy those cool temps!
ReplyDeleteLove your view!!!
ReplyDeleteMy place feels like paradise particularly in the autumn. To an extent, in the springtime. And, OK in the depth of winter. But, summertime is nothing like paradise. It's hot, humid and not at all refreshing most days. July and August will pass, thankfully.
ReplyDeleteEvery place has its shortcomings. Some are just not as short as others. ;) Happy summer, dear Rosaria.
ReplyDeletehallo Rosaria , happy summer to you
ReplyDeleteOf course, if we had it all we would probably still not be content!
ReplyDeleteso true....when I lived west, I longed for fresh berries, green and water...
ReplyDeleteNow I miss avocados (who can not!), dryer air and the ocean!
Pine nuts? Do pine nuts grow there? I understand though you all had protracted cold while the rest of us potato baked?
ReplyDeleteI really do need to get out more often.
hi rosaria,
ReplyDeletemaybe this is just a case of the grass being greener? i'll send you some sweet corn...it's just about ready in the fields of iowa :)
Pine nuts? Yes, by the bushel, scattered on the deck everyday by busy little squirrels. My new cat knows not what she should be doing out there with other critters smaller than she is. She marvels at their ability to scatter nuts and crushed pine cones all over the place.
ReplyDeleteShe must think of them as fast little puppies.
On a broader note: we were inland for a week, visiting colleges with our young ones, and Hubby and I couldn't take the 80's, turning the seldom used air conditioner at full blast!
Funny how fast we adapt.
Ten years ago, we needed down comforters even in summer.
To those of you who are looking to cool off: Fly to Portland, OR, and drive yourself to any coastal town in Oregon. Small, intimate, a throw back to the 50's lifestyle. The diggs are affordable, the food is fresh and healthy. Don't worry about reservations. There are always little cottages available for the whole family.
We're having mini reunions all over the coast. Oregonians, btw, have very strict laws about their environment. Pristine is still a way of life out here.
Thanks for the visit, everyone.
I crave avocado at least three times a week :). And lemons from trees, I miss them! We are lucky with water here, huh? I live on a river. It is a part of my days even a few miles from me and I would miss it like mad if I moved. but the sun is out, Rosaria :)! HAPPY SUMMER!
ReplyDeleteI make tons of guacamole and usually squirt a bit of fresh lime in for good measure! Corn? No matter where it's grown, we devour it!!
