Fitness

Some things are created by big events, like these rocks, lava formations most of them, appearing to jut out from the sea like whale's fins.

Some things are created by small events, like the strengthening of the muscles in our bodies, slowly getting taut, or mushing and diminishing so much they can't support our skeleton.

In this stage of my life, I have to be conscious of my body, and I have to keep looking for opportunities to maintain whatever strength I have.

So, we walk. We push mowers. We rake and hoe.

Just last night, during each commercial, we got up and danced. Yes! Switched to a music station of our choice, and danced. Then rested and caught our breath before the next commercial.

How clever of us!

We might start a new routine in the winter of our days, a routine that might remind us of Spring.

  1. OK! Now I can't get the image of you and husband doing the exercise dance every 10 minutes or so!
    But .... good for YOU!

  3. Everything helps - keep on moving and bopping the night away. (PS bopping means dancing in UK English - I do hope it's not rude in American English - that's been happening to me a lot recently :S )

  4. Cambridge Lady: bopping is a good thing at any latitude!

  5. If I have Latin music on it is hard for me to sit still. But even thus, I am not at all good about keeping to an exercise schedule.

  6. LOL ! I love that you got up and danced!! I remember as a teen that we would do that to any music on TV. BUt when you get older it is so easy to sit. BTW, that picture is awesome!

  7. You guys are too cute!!! Dancing in the winter of your lives. That works for me....think I'll take it up with my hubby!

And, yes, earthquakes in Iceland...the plates are separating at a rate of 2.5 centimeters per year...eventually, the country will be split in two because ocean waters will fill the rift...they're ready for it...

  9. Love it! I think dancing is absolutely the best exercise there is - fun and aerobic. I have taken to using 2lb weights and doing floor exercises while watching TV. My dog loves it.

  11. I'll stick with the gardening. The good UK TV channels don't have adverts.

  13. Dancing during commercials, how beautifully silly....the fun kind. I remember when fitness to me was running 5 to 7 miles each day with a 12 to 15 mile run on weekends. Now a half hour to hour walk suits me to a tee. Dancing. I like it.

  19. You are so much fun...I think I would enjoy dancing more if I had a sweetie to dance with me...but I suppose I COULD do it alone...I love that Caribbean song, "Hot, Hot, Hot" and I have it on my computer...I do play it first thing in the morning when I get out of bed and dance to it to get my heart pounding!

  22. That is great! Dancing is good for the body and the soul. Great cardiac workout, and so much fun! And tones the muscles, too.

I want you to know that dancing with a variety of music uses different muscles.

    How do I know?

The next day, I felt some parts of me I didn't know I had.

    Carry On! Ah! Dance On!

And yes, keeping your partner on his/her feet is a challenge. But that's another post.

  29. Dancing is such great exercise, even for those of us who are uncoordinated. Great idea though, to look after your health through movement.
