Stop and Think. Now Go and watch your Step.

This warning sign, posted at the boat launch ramp of Lake Garrison warns boaters to clean their boats before and after they use the lake to fish or recreate. Not all species are harmful; not all species are benevolent. We just don't want to mix unlikely companions, muddiing the waters, complicating the diet of the native species.

Lake Garrison is in recovery. So are the dunes separating the lake from the Pacific Ocean. People are warned to respect the recovery system and give the process time to recouperate.
This is true in our own lives. When we get sick, it is because of some unusual species/bug/virus attaching itself to our boat/body. We were careful most of the time, good hygiene and good rest. But, something else can occur without our knowledge. Perhaps, we didn't pay attention to the warning signs; perhaps we were too bold and too spirited to even notice those signs.
When things are compromised, then we have to retreat our steps and review the protocols for good health. We may have to install new protocols. We should learn from these experiences and avoid the mistakes in the future.
As I go through my physical therapy exercises, counting each repetition, careful to imitate perfectly each movement, I'm eager to get the use of my arm back to normal. It will take time; it will need patience and support; it will involve time and energy and the cooperation of everybody else in my ecosystem.

  1. Oh yes, I can certainly identify with this. We seem to be travelling similar paths, don't we....here I am doing my physio exercises, aan you are too. We are diligent - we need our "eco-systems" to repair themselves. So we do whatever is necessary, even though we may not always want to!

I have decided to go and have my hair cut tomorrow. A change of image. Maybe, also, it is time to take more notice of me and what I may want to do!

  2. Linds,
Good to hear from you. Yes, a haircut will definetely give us a new lift. Thanks for stopping by.

  3. Hi, lakeviewer. Thank you for stopping by. I found you over at In Through The Back Door.

  4. At least that's where I think I found you. We've also shared a meal over at Lola's kitchen. :)

  5. I wish more people understood how we are all connected, not just to each other, but this earth, our mother. We need to all be much more diligent about caring for each other and for this earth that takes care of us each moment of our lives.

    Great post.

  6. We’ve had some conservation issues in our state too. You are right that it takes time. Good luck with both your own and nature’s recovery.

  7. Yes, that is very true. I also live near a lake that is in recovery. I am glad people care about preserving nature, I would like future generations to experience God's wonders as well.

  8. You're wonderful, Rosaria. In your obstinate repetitions, in getting inspiration from your area's conservation issues and in delicately sharing it all with us, your loyal readers. I hope you recover quickly, this bursitis has had you for too long. Adesso basta!

  10. A world out there and another within and the within part of the without. Is the world out there also in pain as we sometimes are, or is it just our pain as we see the world withering?
Tell us more about the place where you live.

  11. Sending you much love, light and prayers for your healing.

    I liked your analogy.

I also believe our physical and spiritual journey are much in the same.

  12. Such difficult environments to control, lakes and bodies, both fluid. Take care and heal quickly.

  13. Is this the lake you view, as Lakeviewer? What is it recovering from exactly? Take care of that arm!

  14. You are of course spot on with your analogy. The song 'this goes with that... the knee bone's connected to the.... etc etc etc...', makes a whole lot of sense when you somehow find yourself incapacitated in some way with one of the connectors.

Over here (in SA)we have the Murray River and the Coorong fighting for survival. Meanwhile the next State (the greedy ones) are not sharing their resources. Well, they will see the error of their ways.

If we were in the same room I would be better able to explain this disjointed response (it's late).

    Keep up the exercises.

  15. Interesting and thought-provoking post, lakeviewer, thank you. As David Attenborough has said "In human nature there is good and evil, and often it is within man’s capacity to destroy the very things we value most. For millions of years we have been exploiting our planet and its natural resources but it is only with modern technology that we have tipped the scales to an alarming degree. We are at risk of destroying the very bedrock on which our existence was built."

I wonder if you've read 'The Burning Season' by Andrew Revkin?

  16. Hoping you recover in no time. I also hope we see repair of our Earth in our lifetime.

  17. Hope i'ts going very well with your arm, and that your new protocols will prevent future harm! Sounds like you are doing everything right, anyway! :)

  18. Great analogy!
Repairing the earth as well as ourselves can be a long process. Well worth the effort!

    Have a beautiful day!

  22. Learning from our mistakes ~ ah, if only everyone could.

  23. Yes, I hope all is going well and you are seeing the good results of all your p.t., it really is a process isn't it?

  24. What a wise and insightful post, Rosario, and you are so right. I hope your arm is soon better and that the whole of you flourishes again really soon.

  25. A lot of our waterholes in the Outback have been dry for years. WE could do with some serious rain!

Just wondering - did you get my email about how to construct embedded links in a blog post?

  26. Wonderful analogy in this post. Being in tune with our own bodies, and our outside environment, is so important. Everything on this planet is connected - I wish more people would embrace this fact. We have simlar problems in Wisconsin, both in the Great Lakes and our many inland lakes - zebra mussels everywhere.
I wish you a speedy recovery!
    Best wishes always,
    Angela

  27. Be well and heal. The good news is that many things can be recovered if we try hard enough.

    I'm rooting for you.

  28. Thanks for letting me know you didn't get the email. Can you leave a comment on my blog with your email address. Then, after the comment has posted - just delete the comment.

We have so much ice here right now that I am ready to lose my marbles. Okay, I guess I should could to 10. 1 2 3 4 5.......

  30. Greetings, everyone, and thank you for stopping in and sharing your thoughts with me. I can't believe how many people I now know through this marvelous tool. When I was a little girl during World War II we didn't even have electricity in every house. The telephone arrived when I was a teen, followed by television. Within one life, the history of communication in the Western World.

It's a good time to be alive.
